Penalty situations new rules 2019 - new explanations

After 6 months on the road with the new rules, there were still question marks among coaches, players and referees especially around penalties. The WWR (World Water Polo Referees Association) has made a video in which more information is given about penalties. In the video, use is made of sketches of the playing field, with position of attack & defense in which it is made clear which situations are and which are not penalties. This video has been approved by FINA Technical Committee

British Swimming’s new CEO Jack Buckner on the poolside supporting the GBR U19 water polo team in Manchester over 11-13 May 2018 England Water Polo took the opportunity to ask Jack about his views on the future of our sport, our national teams, funding for water polo and hosting more international tournaments. Young Players Explain Water Polo Signals

In the excitement of a hectic water polo match some young players (and not so young ones too) can find it difficult to understand the signals of referees. In this video, young Water Polo players from around Ireland take you through the basic signals so that you can understand what's going on in your next match! Some background to this video... Young Water Polo players have told us that the referee’s signals can be confusing, especially when they are learning the sport. To help with this Swim Ireland worked with groups of young players to identify the referees signals and thus produced a video guide. The video guide explains the role of the referee as well as demonstrating some of the signals used in Water Polo. This was a youth led initiative with their young players being involved in all areas of the project. We hope you enjoy the guide and thank all clubs who took part in its production.

Adam Krikorian is an American water polo coach and Head Coach of the United States women's national water polo team. He coached the team to gold medals at both the 2012 Olympic Games and 2016 Olympic Games. He was named the United States Olympic Committee's Coach of the Games for 2016.
