ASA Inter-Region Tournament 2009

Seagulls' Chris Chamberlain boosted his hopes of selection to the England junior water polo squad with a string of outstanding performances in the National Inter-regional Tournament at Walsall.

The 16-year-old is the first Dorset player to make the South West 18/U team for 30 years and scored six goals in four matches against the best in Britain. He scored a hat-trick in the 11-9 victory over the West Midlands.

The South West lost their opening match 20-3 to eventual winners the North West, where Britain’s national performance centre is based.

Despite beating the West Midlands 11-9, the South West later lost to them by the reverse scoreline but beat last-placed East Midlands 14-11.

In the final table, only goal difference separated the second to fifth teams – Scotland, West Midlands, North East and South West.
