Hayley Macdonald, County Swimming Co-ordinator
Hayley Macdonald (pictured) is the recently appointed County Swimming Co-ordinator for the ASA covering Dorset. In this article she explains her role and background:
"I am one of 7 County Swimming Coordinators in the South West. I am line managed by Jennifer Reid, who is the Senior County Swimming Coordinator based in Bristol. She also covers the Wesport area as a County Swimming Coordinator. Jennifer sits alongside the South West Regional Director and is line managed by the Director of Partnerships, Neil Fender.
"The ASA is working in partnership with Sport England and five government departments including the Department of Culture Media and Sport and the Department of Health, and has agreed to put in place a network of 49 Swimming Co-ordinators, who will be working at a county level to further develop swimming.
"I have two bases – one in the County Sports Partnership in Bournemouth and the other in Dorset County Council. This helps when covering such a large and diverse county such as Dorset.
"I am the main ASA point of contact for everyone in the county, Dorset ASA, County Sport Partnersip, Councils, Partnership Development Managers, coaches and leisure centres etc. My aim is to support you, clubs, parents, participants, centres etc to the ASA within our county.
"I look forward to meeting with you all at some stage, and have a chat about your objectives and how things are going, to get an update as to where you currently are and how to progress the county forward.
"I have been in post since May and attended a comprehensive induction programme with the ASA in Loughborough. I am mainly out and about as my role covers everything from:
- Free Swimming and the dissemination of the Free Swimming Lessons funding available to local authorities;
- partnerships with pool providers, clubs and local authorities,
- upskilling and increasing course availability,
- IOS centres and
- strategic aquatic development within the county.
"Personally, I hold a BSC (hons) in Sport Science and have been teaching swimming as a Level 2 coach for the past 9 years. I have also competed not only in swimming but also in 5 other sports at both a county and national level. I have always been involved in sport though out my life, tailoring my studies to accommodate my ambitions. Whilst at university I ran my own Sport Massage, Sports injuries and Aromatherapy company, successfully running 5 clinics in different locations though out London for 4 years.
"Moving to Dorset back in 2004 I was involved as development officer for the Lawn Tennis Association for Dorset County. More recently I have been working as Senior Project Manager for a large events company prior to joining the ASA.
"It is an exciting time to be involved with the ASA and the development of aquatics particularly in Dorset, so if you would like to drop me an email or give me a call, I am happy to help you.... If I don’t know the answer I will get one for you!
"Please also have a look at the links below. I look forward to meeting you at the next executive meeting and working together.
