Swim England, based in Loughborough, is looking to appoint a Team Manager - Water Polo on a voluntary basis:
  • To be responsible for the safe management of domestic and International training camps and fixtures and be responsible for the safety and welfare of all athletes under your control and care
  • As Team Manager support the Head Coach in the planning, preparation, and delivery of a programme of activity for all players within the strategy agreed by the Governing Body

Your specific responsibilities will be:
  • Working with the Head Coach, Water Polo Talent Officer, and Water Polo Finance lead, plan and manage all bookings and arrangements for training camps including, where appropriate, hotel bookings, travel arrangements, insurance provision, provision of food and refreshments, risk assessments etc.
  • Maintain an update to date medical information form for each player containing appropriate loco parentis for athletes under the age of 18 in compliance with the Governing Body Data Protection Policy
  • Work with the Water Polo Finance Lead on the management of accurate team financial records
  • Be responsible for the management and maintenance of all equipment including hats, balls, cameras etc.
  • Working closely with the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches and relevant Governing Body staff, ensure that athlete welfare is paramount in the planning, delivery and review of all activities
  • Ensure that the requirements expected of all athletes are communicated to both the athletes and, unless specifically requested otherwise, the parents of these athletes
  • Ensure as far as reasonably possible that all health and safety checks are made within the training environment in accordance with guidance, directives or policy as defined by the Governing Body
  • Ensure that all data is in line with GDPR regulations and is maintained in the format directed
  • Create clear lines of communication with the athletes, parents and any other party in respect of each player to ensure as far as possible that expectations are managed and consistent messages are being given to a player in relation to his individual development
  • Attend all Team Manager training to enhance personal development and ensure that current best practice is understood and adhered to
  • Any other duties as agreed with the Water Polo Talent Officer
  • Ensure that the Governing Body Code of Ethics, policies and procedures are complied with at all times.
  • Work with, and support the Marketing and Communications Lead, and other parties in relation to marketing, promotion and related activities for the relevant squad and the overall England Water Polo programme.

This is an unpaid voluntary role, yet reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with Swim England's expenses policy.

About You

Swim England is looking to engage volunteers who have

Qualifications/Experience - Essential
  • An up-to-date safeguarding certificate
  • A Swim England Team Manager 2 qualification
  • A full and clean driving licence
  • Computer literate having a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point etc
  • Experience of Team Management at regional level

Qualifications/Experience – Desirable
  • RLSS Pool Lifeguard qualification
  • First Aid at work qualification
  • Experience of managing a camp abroad

  • Has strong commitment to personal improvement.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities by setting high standards
  • Has good judgement. Demonstrates decisiveness and action.
  • Uses appropriate team working methods and a flexible interpersonal style to help build collaborative working relationships with an array of stakeholders.
  • Effective oral communication skills.

The successful applicant must also be willing to undertake a DBS check.

Previous experience / knowledge of domestic and overseas Team Management  would also be advantageous.
