Swim England is seeking four Water Polo National Academy Head Coaches for a volunteering opportunity working with the Girls and Boys squad for players born 2008 and 2007.

Location *: UK with possible overseas travel
Expected term: September 2021 to September 2023                    
Remuneration: This is a voluntary role. All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Swim England expenses policy.

Swim England is the recognised National Governing Body for swimming in England, helping people learn how to swim, enjoy the water, and compete in our sports of swimming, diving, water polo and synchronised swimming.

Swim England is looking to appoint four National Academy Head Coaches on a voluntary basis, to coach its Water Polo 2007 & 2008 boys’ squads and its Water Polo 2007 & 2008 girls’ squads.

The purpose of the volunteer roles will be to, in consultation with the Senior Team Head Coach, plan, prepare and lead a programme of development for all players covering all assets of the game in preparation for national and international consideration.

Producing detailed written activity and event reports following competition will also form part of the role as well as communicating with the club and regional coach for each player to manage expectations and ensure accurate and consistent communication in relation to athlete development.

The welfare of athletes is extremely important to Swim England and you will also consider this paramount in the planning, delivery and review of all activities.

Reporting to Swim England's Water Polo Talent Officer, this is an exciting opportunity to volunteer alongside the Water Polo Talent team and wider Sport Development team.  

Swim England anticipates the level of commitment to the role being one weekend every two months usually Saturday – Sunday based in UK. An annual 5 day camp either UK or overseas

In addition approximately 3-8 hours per week administration time. Weekly time commitment varies throughout the year dependant on the season. 80% of time 3-8 hours per week and 20% of time 6-12 hours per week.

The successful candidate must have;
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • An in-depth technical understanding of Water Polo and the needs of our sport and players
  • Hold a relevant Coaching Qualification
  • Must be willing to meet the level of commitment for the role
